Christian Dior: Designer of MY Dreams

A Walk Through Dior With The Man Himself

To truly experience the beauty and art that fashion exhibits, one must dig into the history and experiences that a designer is embodying. Christian Dior is undoubtedly a man of great intelligence and style, a man whom jump-started Yves Saint Laurent’s protégé career. Dior’s career as an art owner turned designer is one of the greatest stories of one of the top designers of all time.

From the 5th of July 2017 to January 7th of next year, The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs in Paris is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the House of Dior. I was lucky enough to visit the exhibition and take a trip through the history of The House of Dior. All 300 dresses up for exhibit is something that words simply won’t suffice. The history that the house of Dior incorporated into the exhibit told the story of Christian and all that he endured.
Christian was heavily inspired by the gardens of his childhood home, of which is visible through out his designs. Starting with dancers as his muse, he embodied what it was to be a woman and how to accentuate different body types, such as a tighter waist to underline the curves of a feminine figure.

At one point in the exhibit, you are taken through various rooms which house the pieces of each lead designer after Christian Dior’s death. Those of whom are, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons, all the way to the current designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri. The rooms dedicated to each designer exhibit their most famous designs and their unique methodology behind their pieces.
With the assistance of history, you are able to see pieces that were reborn through each designer. Most recently, Maria Grazia Chiuri has embodied the classic Dior sling back heel, and doused it with “J’adore Dior”, a reoccurring style in her Spring/Summer 2016 Collection.

With tributes to Lady Diana and interactive walls, this exhibit has something for all members of the family. If you have not had the chance to visit this inspiring exhibition, I highly recommend you do so.
